Gaining Soft Skills is mandatory to get a Job.

Gaining Soft Skills is mandatory to get a Job.

While it's true that technology plays a significant role in almost every job out there, knowing how to code can only get you so far in terms of performance. You must become a well-rounded professional if you want to distinguish yourself as a top performer at work, whether as a manager or an individual contributor. The term "soft skills" is unfortunate because these abilities are anything but fluffy. They are the foundation of success. Soft skills are complementary to technical talents, which increases your value beyond any particular professional responsibilities.

Taking this class has improved my skills and showed me that gaining these types of skills will help you to be successful in your career. One of the most important skills that I learned in Leadership and collaboration. Why I this skill important? Because nowadays all the tech industries focus on collaboration and teamwork to complete a specific project. The second skill I learned is creativity. You have to be open-minded with imagination, you have to make your projects and work look different from others, and tech professionals look for people who are able to provide unique solutions and ideas. The last skill I learned is Communication, an IT professional writes a lot of emails, proposals, and design documents, therefore effective written communication is crucial. Equally crucial is verbal communication which is effective.

Additionally, you must be able to articulate your concepts in a way that inspires others to contribute to and fund your endeavors.

You can't learn all the skills in school, they teach us some but the rest we have to gain by ourselves, also the training to join a workplace. Just like Deming said “If you want schools to train people for the workplace, you have to simulate the situation they encounter in the workplace,”

I see myself as a software developer in five years, I gained some skills and I have a lot more to learn to be able to reach what I'm dreaming of. I still need to work on some skills like flexibility, I'm still not giving attention to details which are important in the IT field, and also negotiation. I will be learning these skills with the help of the program I'm following, and I will try to gain those skills using self-taught. Nevertheless, I will make sure to gain all the soft skills needed to be successful in the IT field.

  1. Hi Zoubair, thanks for sharing your thought with us! You have an awesome point here: "The term "soft skills" is unfortunate because these abilities are anything but fluffy". I would name them like people skills, human skills, etc.. Something more fitted. In the time that I have known you I have been able to see your intelligence, energy, determination, adaptability, and great problem solver. I am sure that these skills will pay you well in future :-)
